How to Make Extra Money

Ways to Make Money – How to Make Extra Money

Hard WorkI’ve been thinking about writing this article on how to make extra money this the weekend.  My normal process is to check for what is already out there so that I don’t duplicate what somebody else has already written and also to see if I can get any new ideas.  I was honestly shocked to see that all of the “how to make extra money” articles I found were based on nothing but internet marketing (along with a lot of make money scams).  Now, believe me, I have nothing against internet marketing.  I think it is a fabulous way to earn money, but I think that in today’s economy, many people are looking for something that will put money in their pocket a little bit faster.  Many of the how to make money sites were also basically “how to make fast money” scams that you should really avoid.  Internet marketing done correctly will require a bit of patience as you build a solid base of money making sites.  I will write about internet marketing as a way to make extra money in another post, but I’m starting with some ways to earn money and actually get money in hand within a week or so.

Pretty much everyone would like to learn to make more money.  If you seriously need extra money in a hurry, don’t completely discount picking up extra work on the side that pays a steady rate.  I know that isn’t what anyone wants to read, but if you are in danger of not paying bills, you probably need a sure thing to pull your tail out of the fire and that might be it.  You could also do other “real world” activities like handyman or handywoman activities to help out people who cannot complete tasks on their own or who would rather pay to have things done than give up their time.

Some of these examples are things I did as a kid and I think they still will work.  Just off the top of my head I can think of this short list:

  • Shovel snow
  • Rake leaves
  • Cut grass
  • Clean houses
  • Cook meals
  • Walk dogs
  • Wash dogs
  • Wash cars
  • Help organize for someone
  • Paint
  • Small repairs
  • Plant flowers
  • Clean pools
  • Give massages

This is not anything like an exhaustive list.  Those just came right off the top of my head and I’m sure you could add to the list now that you’ve got your creative juices flowing.  Basically, look for things that people can’t do for themselves or would prefer to have someone else do for them (for money of course).

Now, if you prefer to avoid manual labor, and you need quick cash, I highly recommend selling some stuff on eBay.  Don’t groan.  It really isn’t difficult at all.  I’ve written an entire article about selling on eBay that you can use as a guide.  You might be surprised at how much of your old “stuff” is seen by someone else as a treasure.  Without much effort, I can usually sell between $300 and $500 worth of stuff per week.  The stuff that I sell now consists of items I pick up at estate sales and garage sales.  I rarely spend more than $50 per week on the inventory.  You can probably do that math for yourself.

There are also great opportunities in areas like writing articles, promoting affiliate programs and even monetizing sites by using  Adsense, that I’ll write more about in upcoming posts.  Hopefully, this list will get you started and give you some ideas about how to make extra money!
